(Opening Message)
Howdy,
I have been doing a better job of updating this site as of late but am still really behind. Unfortunately this site *might* soon be coming to an end and so I encourage you to check out my pages at Themestream and Wordarchive. Reading my pieces on those sites could also earn me a little money as well.
As always, please visit the sites that I write for regularly -allaboutjazz.com, Bad Subjects, jazzreview.com, jazzweekly.com, One Final Note and Wiretap- for both my work and that of many other great writers. (Yeah I'm calling myself a great writer. What are you going to do it about it?)
Here are links to the results you get from searching for "micah holmquist" on altavista and google. Ego-Surfing is fun!
Feel free to email me at micahth@umich.edu.
Carrot cake may be the greatest food ever created.

Anti-Nader Democratic Loyalists Represent the Worst in U.S. Politics (November 14, 2000) My take on those who say that Nader cost or may have costed Gore the 2000 presidential election.
Floating Rhythms (November 9, 2000) My review of an interesting new disc from Terje Isungset. I wrote this for jazzreview.com. Click here to read it on that page. Scroll down to the very bottom.
Fun with an Absentee Ballot: Why I'm voting for Nader and more importantly why sledding is very cool (October 26, 2000) Part essay, part journalism, part satire, and partially written in my pajamas, this piece about the current elections in the land known as the "land of the free" will hopefully amuse and provoke electrical currents in the brains of all who read it.
Mayor of Punkville (October 21, 2000) My review of a astonishing release -maybe the best new release I've heard so far this year- from William Parker & The Little Huey Creative Music Orchestra. It is also one of my better reviews. I did it for jazzreview.com. Click here to read it on that site. You will have to scroll down some.
Dan on the Moon (October 21, 2000) Read my review of a not very bad disc from Dr. Dan. I did it for jazzreview.com. Click here to read it on that site. You will have to scroll down some. Seriously, this should put to doubt any questions about whether I ever give performers the benefit of the doubt in my reviews. (That is, read between the lines.)
Supergenerous (October 17, 2000) My take on a disc from Kevin Breit and Cyro Baptista. I wrote this for jazzreview.com. Click here to read it on that site. You will have to scroll down some.
Al Gore: A User’s Manual (October 16, 2000) My somewhat critical but still appreciative look at Alexander Cockburn and Jeffrey St. Clair's new book (read scathing and well researched attack) on Vice President Al Gore.
Poco-A-Poco (October 15, 2000) My review of this rerelease from The Ganelin Trio. I wrote this for jazzreview.com. Click here to read it on that site. You will have to scroll down some.
Spirits (October 11, 2000) I did this review of this recent release by the trio of Pharoah Sanders, Hamid Drake and Adam Rudolph for jazzreview.com. Click here to read it on that site. You will have to scroll down some. More than just a review, it is a guide on how to live life. OK maybe that is going a bit far but there is an inordinate amount of intellectual musings coming out of it. Don't worry the price to you the reader has not risen.
Dressing Alike: Uniforms Hit the Public School Arena (October 3, 2000) I wrote this story about the growing trend of uniforms in public schools for Wiretap. Click here to read it on my site. You can also read my first and second drafts of the article if you care to.
